What We Do

— We Find & Fund
MWADO identifies, supports, and funds community-led initiatives through the Supporting Community-Led Response (SCLR) approach. We work with community groups to identify local priorities, develop solutions, and implement small-scale projects that address challenges such as access to education, water, sanitation, food security, peacebuilding, climate resilience, and protection of women and girls. Through micro-grants and technical support, communities take the lead in designing and managing interventions that respond to their own needs and strengthen local resilience

MWADO builds and strengthens networks that connect communities, civil society organizations, government institutions, religious leaders, community elders, women, youth, and development partners to address shared challenges and promote sustainable development. Through these networks, we foster collaboration, amplify community voices, strengthen advocacy efforts, and mobilize collective action on gender equality, child protection, peacebuilding, climate resilience, and human rights. MWADO also supports community groups and grassroots organizations to access resources, share knowledge, and influence policies that affect their lives

MWADO strengthens the capacity of communities, local institutions, and grassroots organizations to lead sustainable development, protect human rights, and build resilience. Through training, mentorship, advocacy, and community-led action, we empower women, youth, community groups, and local leaders to identify challenges, develop solutions, and drive lasting change. MWADO also strengthens protection systems, referral pathways, peace structures, and community networks to ensure vulnerable populations have access to support and opportunities.
Our Activities
MWADO implemented a series of Chiefs’ Barazas across Central, Karare, and Sagante-Jaldesa Wards.
The Barazas utilized pictorial Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials andreferral pathway diagrams to enhance community understanding of available reporting mechanisms and survivor support services.
Marsabit Trade Fair 2024
The Marsabit County Trade Fair 2024 brought together businesses, cooperatives, farmers, women and youth groups, government agencies, NGOs, and development partners to showcase products, services, innovations, and investment opportunities in the county. The event served as a platform for networking, market linkages, business promotion, and economic development
Celebration of Internation Day of African Child.
MWADO joined children, schools, community leaders, and stakeholders in commemorating the Day of the African Child. The event provided a platform to celebrate the resilience and potential of African children while raising awareness on child rights, education, protection, and the elimination of harmful practices such as FGM and child marriage.
Dirib Gombo community meeting
MWADO conducted a community sensitization meeting in Dirib Gombo, bringing together community members, local leaders, women, youth, and other stakeholders to discuss key social issues affecting the community. The forum provided an opportunity to raise awareness on the prevention of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, gender-based violence, child protection, and the importance of education for girls.
Facilitation of Gender Technical Working Group
MWADO facilitates the Gender Technical Working Group (GTWG) by bringing together government departments, civil society organizations, community representatives, and other stakeholders to coordinate efforts aimed at advancing gender equality and protecting the rights of women and girls.
Launch of SGBV Directory supported by Oxfam
Lveniam quislaunch of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Directory, a resource designed to improve access to essential support and services for survivors and individuals at risk of SGBV in Marsabit County. The directory brings together information on available health, psychosocial, legal, protection, and referral services, helping survivors, communities, service providers, and local authorities identify where and how to access appropriate support.
