Marsabit Women Advocacy and Development Organization (MWADO) is a women-led, community based organization committed to promoting human rights, gender equality, social justice, and sustainable development in Marsabit County and beyond.
Founded to address the challenges faced by women, children, youth, and marginalized communities, MWADO works to create inclusive, resilient, and empowered societies through advocacy, capacity building, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
Our work is grounded in the principles of dignity, equality, participation, accountability, and respect for human rights. We believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to live free from violence, discrimination, and poverty.

Founder: Nuria Gollo
Nuria Gollo founded Marsabit Women Advocacy and Development Organization (MWADO) in 2003 with the vision of empowering women and girls, promoting human rights, and advancing social justice in Marsabit County. Through her leadership, MWADO has become a recognized community-based organization championing gender equality, child protection, peacebuilding, and the eradication of harmful practices such as FGM
Our Approach
We Facilitate community based prevention of harmful cultural practices
community-based approach recognizes that harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and other forms of gender-based discrimination are deeply rooted in social norms, beliefs, and traditions. Sustainable change is achieved when communities themselves lead the process of identifying harmful practices, challenging existing norms, and developing culturally acceptable alternatives. Research shows that community-led interventions are more effective than legal enforcement alone because they address the underlying social and cultural factors that perpetuate these practices.

Support Us and Change the Lives of Marsabit Children
School mentorship is a powerful community-based intervention that equips girls with knowledge, confidence, life skills, and support systems to resist Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), remain in school, and pursue their future aspirations. Evidence from Kenya shows that mentorship programs, especially when combined with community engagement and alternative rites of passage, contribute to reducing FGM, child marriage, and school dropout among girls
