Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods

MWADO supports pastoralist and vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change by enhancing food security, promoting sustainable livelihood initiatives, and empowering women and youth economically. Through micro-grants, capacity building, and resilience-focused projects, the organization helps households reduce vulnerability and build long-term sustainability.

MWADO has been at the forefront of community empowerment in Marsabit, through strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives. In collaboration with Oxfam, MWADO implemented the GFFO project in 2023, providing vital support to 35 local groups. This initiative enhanced community resilience and promoted sustainable development across the region.

In 2023/2024, we introduced a pioneering approach known as Supporting/Survivor Community led response (SCLR), which supported 5 community groups. This innovative strategy aimed to amplify survivor voices and tailor support services to their specific needs, marking a significant step forward in humanitarian efforts within Marsabit.

The five groups supported under SCLR are:

  • Ngorno Youth Group
  • Songa Women Group
  • Dokatu Environmental Group
  • Orabula Group
  • Dololo Dokatu Women Group
